Divorce Coaching
A divorce coach is not meant to replace legal counsel. Attorneys are necessary in order to represent the best interest of their clients and advocate for them in court. Attorneys work as experts in order to settle the business part of the divorce.
We as divorce coaches are there to keep you focused, calm and goal directed. Emotionally charged and misguided behavior by divorcing parties costs them money, more stress in the process, and ultimately prolongs the process of the divorce. We are skilled at helping our clients stay goal oriented, and providing effective strategies for dealing with spouses who may be acting unreasonably, erratic or overly emotional. Because of our experience with the process we know what has to happen and have good explanations and solid answers for our clients which eases the stress and allows them to take things one day at a time. Coaching is not therapy or counseling it is a solution oriented approach brought in to help manage specific situations.
There are so many emotions throughout the divorce process. Oftentimes it is difficult for individuals to separate business from emotions. Many decisions are made out of emotional impulses because the feeling are so intertwined. We help our clients focus on the matters at hand and not allow their emotions to guide the process. Our support and skill building techniques guide clients forward at a time when their world may seem to be caving in. We have the legal and the mental health experience necessary to provide effective and compassionate services by helping our clients see the bigger picture and helping them navigate through this most difficult part of their life. We teach our clients how to communicate more effectively with their lawyer; how to problem solve more effectively, prepare the client for court appearances including depositions, mediations and other stressful events. This provides the attorney with a calmer and more skilled partner. Additionally we have experience and expertise in the developmental needs of a children, and a clear understanding of the needs of psychologically compromised clients and serving as the divorce process consultant.
In addition to the above, the coach also occasionally acts as an advisor to the attorney at pivotal moments or decision points. Coaches and lawyers act as an interdisciplinary team encouraging mutual endeavors. But even if we have little direct contact with the attorney, coaching prepares the client to participate better in the legal process especially at highly emotional times.
